Roman Republican Janus Denarius Pendant in Handcrafted 14k Gold

An authentic silver denarius from 119 BC, celebrating the Roman god of beginnings.

Long before the emperors, before Julius Caesar, and nearly two centuries before the birth of Marcus Aurelius, Rome struck coins that celebrated the ideals upon which the Republic was built.

This authentic silver denarius was minted in 119 BC, during a period when Rome was expanding its influence across the Mediterranean while still governed by republican institutions. It is a remarkable survivor from one of the most influential political systems in history.

Janus: The God of Beginnings

The obverse features the distinctive double-headed god Janus, one of the oldest and most uniquely Roman deities. Looking simultaneously to the past and the future, Janus presided over beginnings, endings, transitions, and the opening of new chapters in life.

Even today, his legacy survives in the name of the month January, a reminder that every new year invites us to reflect on where we have been and where we are going. For many collectors, Janus represents wisdom gained through experience and the courage to embrace what lies ahead.

Victory on the Reverse

The reverse depicts a victorious figure driving a four-horse chariot—a quadriga—while holding a laurel branch, the timeless symbol of triumph and honour. To the Romans, victory was not merely military success. It represented discipline, perseverance, and service to the Republic. Together, the imagery of Janus and Victory creates a powerful message: honour the past, embrace the future, and move forward with purpose.

Handcrafted to Honour the Coin

This authentic Roman Republican denarius has been carefully set by hand in a handcrafted 14k gold bezel, designed to protect the ancient silver coin while allowing its artistry and history to remain the centre of attention.

Every setting is individually made to complement the character of the coin rather than compete with it.
