From my childhood in the Netherlands, I’ve been drawn to historical objects, coins most of all. I began collecting old Dutch VOC pieces, imagining the journeys they had taken across oceans and markets.
Ancient coins seemed far beyond reach. I thought they were fragile artifacts reserved for museums or the wealthy, until I discovered they were often surprisingly accessible.
My collecting deepened after moving to the United States. Each coin became a doorway: a silver piece struck during Emperor Florian’s 88-day reign; a coin from Egypt bearing Zeus’s bearded profile.
Eventually, I acquired the coin I had long dreamed of: a silver Athenian owl tetradrachm struck over two thousand years ago.
I wanted to wear it, but found only replicas or poorly fitting mounts. So I learned to create my own settings, handcrafted in 18k gold or sterling silver to protect the coin while revealing its beauty. (You can read more about this here.)
At Peregrine Pendants, every piece is one of a kind: the coin itself, worn by centuries, and the custom bezel that frames it, made by hand in Chicago.
Each piece includes historical notes and a guarantee of authenticity. My goal is simple: to create heirloom jewelry that honors the journey of every coin, built to last for generations.
