Antiochos and the Elephant | Apameia, 222–187 BC | Silver Drachm in Sterling Silver
Antiochos the Great
Seleukid Empire, 222–187 BC | Set in Sterling Silver
This silver drachm was struck under Antiochos III, called "the Great," one of the most ambitious rulers of the Hellenistic world.
The obverse shows the king in Hellenistic style, diademed and facing right—an idealized image of royal authority. The reverse features a powerful elephant in mid-stride, with the Greek inscription ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ (“of King Antiochos”) above and below. This striking motif evokes both military might and exotic reach, as war elephants played a central role in Antiochos’ campaigns from Asia Minor to India.
Struck in Apameia on the Orontes, a strategic city in modern-day Syria, this coin reflects the Seleukid kingdom at its height. Now framed in solid sterling silver, it becomes a wearable symbol of ambition, empire, and the enduring pull of classical power.

Yes — all coins are genuine, not replicas. Fakes are rare because good forgeries take too much effort for low-value coins, and bad ones are easy to spot.
Where are your coins bought?
Mostly from reputable ancient coin auctions in Europe and the USA, plus private collections.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we proudly ship worldwide. Shipping options and times vary by country — you’ll see available methods at checkout.
Can I send you my own coin to make a pendant?
Absolutely! We love turning personal coins into wearable pieces. Just email us at info@peregrinependants.com to discuss your custom order.
