Following Alexander's death in 323 BC, his successors continued minting coins using his iconic designs. This example was struck at the famous mint of Miletos in Ionia between 295 and 275 BC, during the early Hellenistic period. Its obverse depicts Herakles wearing the lion skin of the Nemean Lion, while the reverse features Zeus, king of the gods, seated with eagle and sceptre, a design that became one of antiquity's most enduring coin types.
