This Exact Ancient Coin • Your Choice of Handcrafted Setting
This authentic Athenian Owl tetradrachm has been individually selected for its beauty, history, and character.
The coin shown is the exact coin you will receive. After purchase, I will handcraft a custom bezel in brass, sterling silver, 14k gold, 18k gold, or 22k gold specifically for this coin, preserving its unique shape while creating a pendant that can be worn every day.
No two Owls are exactly alike. Every scratch, strike, and patina tells part of the story of a coin that has survived for more than 2,300 years.
Why I Chose This Coin
Every Athenian Owl has its own personality. Some have exceptional portraits of Athena, others beautifully centered owls, rich cabinet toning, or evidence of centuries of circulation.
I selected this particular example because it stood out for its overall eye appeal, historical character, and balance. Rather than searching for perfection, I look for coins with presence—pieces that immediately capture attention while remaining unmistakably ancient.
Once this pendant is sold, this exact coin will never be available again.

The Story
Few coins have had a greater influence on the ancient world than the Athenian Owl.
During the fifth century BC, Athens emerged as one of history's great cultural and political powers. Silver from the nearby Laurion mines allowed the city to build its navy, construct the Parthenon, and produce the coinage that would become synonymous with trust throughout the Mediterranean.
The obverse depicts Athena, goddess of wisdom and patron deity of Athens. On the reverse stands her sacred owl beside an olive sprig and crescent moon, symbols that have become enduring icons of the ancient world. That is what continues to draw me to these coins.
Every owl has its own personality. Some reveal Athena's portrait with remarkable strength. Others display beautifully centered reverses or centuries of gentle circulation. Choosing between them is not about finding the "best" coin. It's about finding the one that speaks to you.

Looking for something specific? I'm happy to help you find an Owl with the characteristics that matter most to you.
Your setting is made only after your order is placed, ensuring it is fitted specifically to this exact coin. Because ancient coins are hand-struck, the obverse and reverse are rarely aligned like modern coins. If you have a preferred side to face forward when worn, simply leave a note with your order and I'll orient the setting accordingly.
