Every ancient coin is unique. Each strike, surface, and patina tells part of a story that has survived for more than 2,300 years.
Why I Chose This Coin
Among the many Alexander drachms I've handled, this one stood out immediately for its generous flan, allowing both the portrait of Herakles and the reverse design to be displayed with exceptional completeness. The bold portrait retains excellent classical style, while the spacious reverse beautifully frames Zeus enthroned with his eagle and sceptre. The result is a remarkably balanced coin with strong visual presence that translates exceptionally well into jewelry.
The Story
Following Alexander the Great's death in 323 BC, his silver coinage continued to be struck across his vast empire for decades. These posthumous issues helped unify trade from Greece to Egypt and deep into Asia, making them among the most influential coins of the ancient world.
This example was struck at the famous mint of Miletos in Ionia between 295 and 275 BC, during the early Hellenistic period. Its obverse depicts Herakles wearing the lion skin of the Nemean Lion, while the reverse features Zeus, king of the gods, seated with eagle and sceptre, a design that became one of antiquity's most enduring coin types.

Every coin in this collection is individually selected for its historical significance, artistry, and character. Because each pendant is made from an authentic ancient coin, no two pieces are ever exactly alike.
More photographs and the complete numismatic description are available upon request. Each pendant is handcrafted to order and made using the exact coin shown in the listing.
Handcrafted Setting
Your setting is made only after your order is placed, ensuring it is fitted specifically to this exact coin. Because ancient coins are hand-struck, the obverse and reverse are rarely aligned like modern coins. If you have a preferred side to face forward when worn, simply leave a note with your order and I'll orient the setting accordingly.
