This pendant features a genuine silver drachm struck in the name of Alexander III of Macedon—better known as Alexander the Great. Issued over 2,300 years ago, during or shortly after his reign, it reflects the enduring iconography of one of history’s most ambitious rulers. The coin is hand-set in a custom 18k gold bezel, shaped and polished entirely by hand to fit its natural contours. Each bezel is unique, ensuring the coin remains secure while preserving its ancient surface and irregular flan. No two are ever alike.
The History
Alexander’s conquests stretched from Greece to Egypt and as far east as India, creating one of the largest empires in history. His coinage became the unifying currency of this vast world, struck at dozens of mints across the Hellenistic kingdoms.
The obverse depicts Herakles wearing the lion-skin headdress, a symbol of strength and divine favor often associated with Alexander himself. The reverse shows Zeus enthroned, holding a scepter and eagle, with the inscription ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ declaring the authority of his empire. These coins projected legitimacy, power, and continuity long after Alexander’s death, shaping the imagery of kingship for centuries.

Do you ship internationally?

Can I send you my own coin to make a pendant?
Absolutely! We love turning personal coins into wearable pieces. Just email us at info@peregrinependants.com to discuss your custom order.
