The History
Glassmaking flourished under the Roman Empire, where artisans perfected techniques of blowing and coloring that spread from Syria and Italy to every corner of the Mediterranean. Beads like this served not only as adornment but also as portable luxury, traded along routes that connected provinces from Britain to North Africa and the Near East.
The iridescence seen today — a shimmering rainbow effect — developed over centuries of burial as minerals interacted with the glass. Collectors prize this patina as both a sign of authenticity and a mark of age.
