Gordian III - Sapphire and Aquamarine in 18k Gold

Sale Price:$995.00 Original Price:$1,375.00
sale

This is a truly one of a kind pendant of a coin of emperor Gordian III. I carefully added two aquamarines and one sapphire to the 18k setting. The coin was acquired from a premier ancient coin dealer.

To appreciate the pendant's size, the relief of the coin and the shape of the bail, see the picture showing the coin next to a US quarter (will post soon). The coin was first set in a gold bezel, which was then hammered over the edge of both sides. This was then sanded and polished. This pendant is built to last.

Comes with certificate which guarantees authenticity and provides background information (listed below) on the acquired coin

-- Coin information:

Gordian III - silver denarius with gems (sapphire and aquamarin).

Obverse: IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right

Reverse: IOVIS - STATOR, Jupiter standing facing, head right, holding scepter and thunderbolt

Struck 240 AD

Gordian III, 29 July 238 - 25 February 244 A.D. Gordian III was the grandson of Gordian I and nephew of Gordian II. He was proclaimed Caesar shortly before the murder of Balbinus and Pupienus, and he succeeded them. Little is known about his reign. In 242 A.D. he embarked on a campaign against the Persian Kingdom which was so successful the Persians had to evacuate Mesopotamia. However, Gordian III died shortly after, through illness or the machinations of his Praetorian prefect and successor, Philip I.
