Byzantine Gold - Angel - Justin I

Sale Price:$1,150.00 Original Price:$1,350.00
Sold Out - Please email info@peregrinpendants.com to inquire about a similar pendant.

This is one of three gold Byzantine coins that I have set as a pendant. It is very small (see picture with one of the other coins and a penny). They have a beautiful image of a victory or angel on one side, and the emperor on the other.

This coin is gorgeous and it is set in a one of a kind prong setting.

-- Coin information

Justin I / Justinus I, Constantinople mint 518-527 A.D.

Obverse: D N IVSTINVS P P AVI, diademed, draped and cuirassed bust to right

Reverse: VICTORIA AVGVSTORVM, Victory advancing to right, head to left, holding wreath and globus cruciger; star in right field, CONOB in exergue

Of Macedonian peasant origin, Justin I rose through the ranks of the military and was proclaimed emperor by the army on 10 July 518 A.D. He was uneducated, but intelligent enough to rely upon the policy advice of his brilliant nephew, Justinian I. Justinian was raised to the rank of co-Emperor months before Justin's death on 1 August 527 A.D.

All coin jewelry comes with the following items:

- Certificate which guarantees authenticity and provides background information (listed below) on the acquired coin(s)

- Jewelry pouch
