Athenian Owl Tetradrachm Pendant – 18k Gold or Sterling Silver, Made to Order
This listing is made to order, meaning I will craft the pendant and ship it within three weeks. The coin featured here is an authentic Athenian Owl tetradrachm, purchased from a reputable ancient coin dealer. It has a particularly interesting irregular shape, which makes it unsuitable for a traditional bezel setting. Instead, I will set the coin using a custom-fitted prong setting in solid 18k gold or sterling silver, designed to protect the coin while leaving its natural contours visible. The first two pictures are of the actual coin.
Please read my post about this amazing coin here to learn more about it.
This stunning 2,400-year-old coin measures 24mm in diameter and weighs 17 grams. Because the sides are not aligned, you will be able to choose whether the Athena side or the owl side faces front when worn.
Your order includes a certificate of authenticity, along with historical background information (see below).

Owls on Ancient Coins
Owls appear on many ancient coins, but the most iconic and widely recognized type is the Athenian Owl. In ancient Greek, these coins were affectionately nicknamed “owls” and “girls,” referring to the owl on the reverse and Athena on the obverse.
The design remained unchanged for over 100 years, even as other cities moved toward more refined artistic styles. The Athenian tetradrachm’s wide circulation, high silver content, and consistent quality made it a dominant trade coin across the ancient Mediterranean.
Collectors still prize these coins today for their bold imagery, powerful symbolism, and enduring historical significance.
