Byzantine Gold - Cross of Christianity

Sale Price:$825.00 Original Price:$1,350.00
Sold Out - Please email info@peregrinpendants.com to inquire about a similar pendant.

This is one of three gold Byzantine coins that I have set as a pendant. It is very small (see picture with one of the other coins and a penny).

This coin is larger than the tremissis I have listed (of emperor Justin I) and it is set in a one of a kind prong setting.

-- Coin information

Constans II, Semissis. Struck: 641-668 AD, Constantinople

Obverse:Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Constans II to right. Reverse: Cross potent on globe, δ N COSTANTINЧS P P AV, VICTORIA AVζЧ S

Constans II was the Eastern Roman emperor from 641 to 668. Constans was the last attested emperor to serve as consul, in 642, although the office continued to exist until the reign of Leo VI the Wise (r. 886–912). His religious policy saw him steering a middle line in disputes between the Orthodoxy and Monothelitism by refusing to persecute either and prohibited discussion of the natures of Jesus Christ under the Type of Constans in 648. His reign coincided with Muslim invasions under Mu'awiya I in the late 640s to 650s. Constans was the first Roman emperor to visit Rome since the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476, and the last emperor to visit Rome while it was still held by the Empire.

All coin jewelry comes with the following items:

- Certificate which guarantees authenticity and provides background information (listed below) on the acquired coin(s)
